When Rose reports for Fenton County jury duty she figures she's lucky to get out of a morning working at the DMV. Instead, despite a disastrous encounter with the new assistant district attorney, Mason Deveraux, she's picked as a juror on a murder case. As the trial progresses, she realizes an ominous vision she had in the men's restroom proves the defendant is innocent. And there's not a cotton picking thing she can do about it.
Or is there?
As if things weren't bad enough, Rose's older sister Violet is going through a mid-life crisis. Violet insists that Rose stop seeing her sexy new boyfriend, Arkansas state detective Joe Simmons, and date other men. Rose is done letting people boss her around, but she can't commit to Joe either. Still, Rose isn't about to let the best thing in her life slip away.

Disappointed
By TeeCee
After reading Twenty Eight and a Half reasons I was looking looking forward to the second book only to be disappointed by Rose s stubbornness and stupidity. Repeatedly warned by her cop boyfriend, the court , and her family to "stay out of it" she continually puts, herself in dangerous situations and has,to be rescued. Her boyfriend Joe to be is constantly driving back and forth from his job in Little Rock to protect her from the bad guys,or get her out of jail for snooping when she is thrown off a jury. While her state investigator boyfriend is incredibly patient and loves her you wonder how much more he can take of her foolhardiness. Her sister Violet is,having a,mid life crisis and has turned Mrs. .Crankypants There are a few humorous situations but they don t save the book.I just got tired of the "do something dangerous/stupid/illegal-get rescued-cry and get upset and say I won t do it again-then do it again " cycle. Strong second part of Rose Gardner's adventures
By North
Rose Gardner, at 24, is starting to live her life free of her mother's oppressive and manipulative presence. She still has to deal with nosy neighbors, her job at the DMV, her sister Violet, whose life suddenly seems to be out of control, and her brand new relationship with boyfriend Joe, the state cop.
When called for jury duty, she shows up to the court house, late, frazzled, missing a heel and in dire need of a bathroom. As the ladies' is been cleaned, she uses the men's bathroom and hears a phone conversation that convince her that the accused man is innocent of the murder he's being tried for.
I love this series. It's a fine mix of mystery and romance, with characters so real they jump out of the pages. It's full of great lines, written with a quirky sense of humor that's just perfect. Rose is strong without being rude or overbearing. Joe is a passionate character, somehow in awe of his feelings and not quite comfortable with the way trouble follows Rose.
I really appreciated that, although sex is clearly part of the heros' relationship, the author did not find it necessary to describe the how-to or who does what to whom. I also liked that the relationship is given time to evolve and that not everything is magically solved in the last ten pages.
I'll keep reading !

Crappy Doodles!
By xsullengirlx
I enjoyed the first book in the series (Twenty-Eight and a Half Wishes) which was a Kindle freebie. I purchased this second volume in the Rose Gardner Mystery Series, as I wanted to see how the relationship between the main character (Rose) and her boyfriend (Joe) progressed. I didn't expect much, overall the books are easy reads and lighthearted, despite being mysteries and dealing with some unpleasant situations. However, I had to dock it a complete star on the incessant over-use of the phrase "Crappy Doodles" alone. In the first book, Rose is very sheltered and naive, which she seems to grow out of in a hurry. By the second book, she's barely a shadow of who she once was - except for that extremely annoying phrase (Crappy Doodles) when she gets flustered, which is often. While the character grows and starts using swear words, the usage of *insert annoying phrase here* doesn't seem to fit with her new persona. I believe that the author was trying to show the reader that Rose was a simple and innocent girl, but it just didn't flow with the way Rose was maturing. It was extremely juvenile and kept me from connecting to Rose. It's also a pet peeve of mine when an author uses a phrase over and over - it shows a lack of creativity. The book was a fun little read otherwise (if you can get past the fact that it's completely unbelievable), and I will finish the series by reading book 3. I can only hope the author has eased up on the "Crappy Doodles" this time around.
