Inspirational, Life Changing and Amazing

I received this book and was to to stop reading everything else and read this. At first I found to book to be amazingly accurate about what happens to most people that get into network marketing. As I got more into the book and began to see someone else saying what I have been saying for years, I got more engrossed in the book, wanting to know more about how to use the tools that are talked about, wanting to be part of this team, wanting to show people how they can succeed when they have been abandoned by their upline or just don't have the skills and tools they need to move forward. This book is the begging of knowledge and the catapult to financial freedom.

You have got to read this book and share it with everybody looking for the future they dream of.

What will upline say?

Six Figures in Six Months
I got slightly concerned, not by the book, but by the resistence one might get from upline who only knows of the 'enroll, hope, replace' strategy -- which the book clearly highlights as a costly exercise that leaves many would-be networkers disgruntled because of non-succeess (in their short term view).

My initial misgivings:
* I disliked the repeated advertisements of the tools (I now have gone through some Ri Training content :) ). After some introspection, what would I rather have had, left out to find non-specific content? So I quickly changed my mind and got the tools.
* Implementation and follow-through (3 Step Success Pattern) on my part. No book, CD, technique builds a business; people do. Well-trained people do the best, in almost anything. Tools are a great start for anyone. Network Marketing is a profession, one of the fastest growing, might I add.

Questions I had:
1. How do I build fast momentum if people still have to go and analyse themselves?
2. How do I deal with people that quit at stage one of the 3-step Success Pattern?
3. Will all new enrollees want to take the PEProfile? What will my uplines say? But then who's business is it?
4. How do I infuse the 3-step Success Pattern (with the 3 principles) with what I already know?

Answers:
1. tricky, but do I want to build with pin-heads? No!!! So there! NMers must undergo some form of training to handle the ups and downs.
2. They were going to quit anyway. The book goes deeper in stating the reasons most folks quit, or try another company with the same 'enroll, hope, replace' strategy.
3. That's what the criteria for a teachable person includes. Invest time with people who want to follow a proven and predictable, duplicable system. If not, they won't last long anyhow. Fear not! The question of upline mentor: I think one needs to run it past their upline coach/mentor regardless. Why? Because, the moment you try to do your own thing is the moment you lose duplication and predictability in your team. You're effectively saying: look I've got a better way to do things now. But don't you change it! :) First thing they'll do, is... look for more loopholes and... change it too!! They (upline mentor) have a better view, if not, go further upline. Take the PEProfile and put their email address there. Discuss what he'd recommend you read/listen to in order to improve the red and yellow scores. That way, you are still using your specific system of business building, just with more focus and intent for massive growth. I think this is the most important thing for me: improve using your company's proven business building patterns, supplemented by the PEProfile as a 'map'.
4. I am working on this one. I'm a bit concerned about mucking things up for my team. Albeit a good sign of leadership is to make a decision promptly and stick with it until the desired result is achieved. To coalesce or not to coalesce recipes, that is the question I am still mulling over... Start a new team, "start them at the start", help them "build personal effectiveness", advise them to "follow a proven pattern that creates predictability."

What An Eye Opener!

I bought this book because one of my partners recommended it as a must read ASAP. I ordered it from the author however I was so excited and impatient that I bought the Kindle version. It was read by the time the physical book arrived. What an eye opener regarding why people succeed and fail in our industry. I now know what I didn't know therefore I can do something about it. I also love that the skills taught can be used in everyday life. What a game-changer!

Ridiculously Thought-Provoking and Challenging

There is a sincerity that comes from the words of Mitch Glaser that seldom seems evident in a book like this. While he shows his passion, he demonstrates his knowledge of the topic with finesse and confidence.
As a Jewish man, the first 30 pages resonated with me in a way that captured some of my own personal thoughts, struggles, and curiosities. What does it mean to be "Jewish?" What does faith and religion and belief have to do with it?
"Isaiah 53 Explained" offered an answer that is not very common among Jewish people. It guides the reader through an easy-to-read, yet skillfully-written look at the 53rd chapter in the Old Testament book of Isaiah. All the while, Glaser is frank yet considerate of the reader's thoughts, skepticism and reluctance to consider such a taboo subject; perhaps Yeshua (Jesus) could be the one spoken of in this polarizing but attention-worthy chapter.
The comparisons and similarities to the description in this chapter as explained in the book to the life and death of Yeshua is uncanny and begs real thought and personal investigation. It seems that there is no better place to start than this book.
Glaser even discusses the opposing views, which he thoughtfully considers and still gives his opinion as to why they cannot be correct.
If you are Jewish this is a must read because, from the heart of another Jewish man, this chapter needs to be explained it is has "changed my life" as the by-line states.
If you are Christian, this can only enhance your understanding of the man whom you know as the Messiah, which stems from the Jewish people and whom was spoken of by the Jewish prophets.

Well worth the read!

Reading Isaiah 53: explained is explicable

Last year, for some bizarre reason I can't remember, my banker mentioned to me that he had seen a poster advertising "Isaiah 53- Explained" by Mitch Glaser. He had been intrigued about why evangelical Christians and even a growing minority of Jewish people believe that Jesus of Nazareth is the subject of this Ancient Hebrew prophecy. He had tried to summon the courage to order this book but had succumbed to inertia. Having no such qualms about being suspected of treason by my own religious Jewish relatives, I gave him mine and ordwred a second for myself! And the guy enjoyed the read, and we discuss it in a coffee shop every six months. And considering how dull the market is for small private funds, our scheduled lunchtime discussion of Isaiah 53 ends up being a lot more long and interesting than the previous activity. What do we like about it? Mitch Glaser seems to write this book for truly liberal secular open-minded autunomous thinking educated Jews, just like we both aspire to be. Although religious Jews are not excluded from those who would be engaged by the read. Or, come to think of it, secular Gentiles and committed Christians either. And he dares you to constructively disagree with his premise, by coming up with a better candidate for the main character of the book than Jesus of Nazareth. Maybe other readers would like order it too, and little Isaiah 53 studies can sprout all over the land, for this provacative and well written book, is certinly best pondered on alone, but then thrashed out with others. However, if you want to be more private about it, at least you can now keep it off your bookshelf and store it on your kindle! Either way, its well worth a read about a significant man who shaped our civilisation, and who needs by both Jews and Christians to be seen in his Jewish context, if they are to both understand the message they each have to offer to the world.

This is really a good book to read, especially for those of the Jewish Faith. It really explains what Isaiah 53 is all about and that is that Christ is the suffering servant that needed to come and save the world.

Rich stories and authentic, researched history

Books explaining the history behind myths and legends rarely impress me. My standards are high as a folklore enthusiast and a genealogist. When it comes to Celtic and pre-Celtic lore, I'm a harsher book critic than most people.

I bought this book with some anxiety. I didn't want to expect much, though I'm familiar with Mr. Simpkin's background as an historian.

This afternoon, curiosity got the better of me. I finally sat down to read this book. The opening was charming, and captured a sense of local color in the verse. I was favorably impressed.

Then, Mr. Simpkin launched into the history behind the verse. From that point on, I was so impressed, my gasp probably sounded like I'd started the vacuum cleaner.

This is the first book I've seen in this genre that not only offers a variety of historical interpretations, but also shares modern-day locations related to the tales.

Simpkin's details are precise. I see this only when the research was thorough. Frankly, I can hardly wait to visit Leicestershire to explore the places that inspired these legends.

These are wonderful stories. The in-depth research represented throughout this book... it earns my gratitude and wholehearted respect.

If you've been looking for authentic folklore with genuine, well-researched history and modern-day references... you've found it. This book is like the Holy Grail of myths and legends from Leicestershire. I can't begin to tell you how impressed I am by this book, and how much I hope Mr. Simpkin publishes many more books like this one.

Generally, other authors' books in this category earn a begrudging three stars from me. They're okay, but not great.

This book deserves every one of the five rating stars I've given it. If you're looking for rich Leicestershire folklore and the history behind it, read this book. I'm tremendously impressed, and I think you will be, too.

Simpkin: Bard, Novelist, Historian, Artist!!

I must say I loved this collection of colourful poetry! The layout was cleverly designed to offer a clear explanation of local myths and folklore, followed by entertaining verse that not only provided enjoyment but taught a history lesson as well. Having previously enjoyed two books in Mr. Simpkin's 'The Borough Boys' series, set in Leicester, I found the folklore of this same area particularly interesting. The sketches that accompanied some of the verses were an added bonus! Simpkin quotes Rudyard Kipling with 'If history were taught in the form of stories, it would never be forgotten' and what an apt quote this is. This book of verse is a history lesson I won't soon forget and one I'd highly recommend!

A Good Place to Start Reading Poetry

I'm not a huge poetry reader, but I liked this very much. Mr. Simpkin's telling of historical English legends, first in instructional narrative and then in poetry, is a fun way to learn a little folklore and enjoy a bit of fanciful writing at the same time.

The stories are short and easy to follow, with a lot of breaking point if you want to read only one at a time. I read them all the way through and enjoyed it very much.

Highly recommended!

A terrible book for historians, a great book people with no common sense or knowledge of military history

The monograph can at best serve as a primer on the pharmaceutical turn in the 19th century and its implications for war fighting. It rests mostly on lazy quotes of citations of citations of primary sources. Short in empirical evidence. Author makes inexcusable mistakes about the most basic elements of biochemistry, neurology, or human anatomy, which is a problem when the subject of the book is about the effects of drugs ON THE BRAIN.

For instance, he describes the well known Nazi drug D-IX as 5 mg morphine 5 mg cocaine 3 mg meth. All three of these drugs have minimum therapeutic does above 5mg, 5 mg, and 3 mg. You would need at least 3 pills to feel anything at all, as 15 mg is the LTD for morphine. ZBefore you felt any effects from cocaine, you would have to eat forty of tabs all at once. That would come with 200 mg of morphine and 120 mg of meth, would probably kill you. It is quite literally impossible that one pill of D-IX could sustain a man on a 50 mile March, both because all of its components are dosed too low to have any psychoactive effects and all the drugs would have been metabolizes in the first 10 hours of work. Perhaps the formula was transcribed incorrectly but incorrectly, then passed into the archives. It would make way more sense to have 500 mg cocaine (a moderate oral dose), 30 mg of meth (a moderate dose) and 15 mg of morphine (the LTD. He argues some Germans went insane after taking 5 mg or amphetamine. This, too, is impossible. Amp psychosis requires way bigger--100 to 200 times bigger--doses. The author's ignorance of facts like these leads him to treat primary sources uncritically.

Anyone who says 5 mg of orally ingested cocaine can help men March for 50 miles is lying, which points to the possibility that D-IX was a myth spread to intimidate the allies or its composition was nothing like the books description. There is a steady stream of these kinds of basic errors in every case.

How can we treat a pop history about drugs that has no original research, demonstrates scientific illiteracy, and has no discernible thesis other than "people did drugs" as serious scholarship OUP? Where are your editors and reviewers? This is more of a coloring book than a monograph!

An unsually interesting and sometimes unusally upsetting history.

I rate this at four stars for writing and 5 for a huge amount of information. The text has been translated from the original Polish edition, so that might account for a few issues. Kamienski has combined in one book a great deal of information; much of it has been available elsewhere, but combined into one account, I think some patterns can be noted. Military interest in drugs (which in this book includes alcohol) is related to anything that can improve soldiers' stamina, strength in battle, courage or at least antidote fear, as well as helping deal with pain and doubt. In modern times, the interest in drugs includes interest in crowd control, incapacitating the enemy (including disorientation, eroding morale and causing fear), breaking stubborn captives ("truth serum"); and also keeping people awake for extended missions and concentrated on task. Drugs are also a matter of individual soldiers coping with their situation. Kamenski's book deals with all this. He describes his book as "a social, cultural and political history of psychoactive substances on the battlefield." He's interested in three aspects: drugs issued by the authorities (such as amphetamines to pilots or special forces), drugs "self prescribed" (such as heroin use in Vietnam) and drugs used as weapons or instruments of subversion.

Use of drugs appears to have been widespread. Among the examples in the book are Tibetans giving horses and mules string tea to improve their work at altitude; elephants in Southeast Asia being given opium balls as reward for good work in lumbering; rum given to British sailors (rather large amounts in today's sense). German forces drank beer, the French drank wine and the Russians vodka. Japanese kamikaze pilots drank the night before their final missions. In the Chechen war Russian soldiers widely traded weapons for alcohol. Then there were the opium wars forcing the Chinese to accept British opium, free trade for the British but from the Chinese view, subversion. Opium was used by soldiers in India, and elsewhere. Zulus reportedly used drugs to heighten courage. The Viking berserkers might have too, although present history views this as a legend. There are legends about drug use that apparently are false, as in the Moro jihadis in the Philippines against American soldiers.

There are sections on the American Civil War, World War 1 and 2, Korea and Vietnam. Wide use of opiates and morphine in the Civil War allegedly created a drug problem among veterans, but Kamienski says this may also be a legend. Use in World War 2 seems to be officially for aircrew and unofficially soldiers' using drugs informally and sometimes illegally. The last third of the book is interesting reading but somewhat concerning for an American, with officials searching for drugs to enhance performance but also for drugs that could incapacitate enemies (not kill them, really, in the same sense chemical warfare in World War 1 did). The discussion of American drug use in Vietnam is lengthy and fascinating--and he says that while drug use was heavy among the troops, the legend of a mass of drug addicts coming home is also a legend. There is also discussion of continuing American exploration of performance-enhancing drugs for enhancing mission performance.

The most disturbing part of the book is his account of child soldiers and drugs, happening primarily in Africa; the combination of child, AK-47 and drugs has been quite widespread and quite remarkably savage. Drugs seem to have been used by some jihadis, as well. Near the end he notes that today only air forces "implement a fully fledged policy of psychopharmacological management of alertness, sleep and fatigue" but that this will certainly expand to the rest of armed forces.

The epilogue looks at war itself as a drug and seems to conclude (I didn't follow the argument very well) that the emotional highs and the moments of danger for some solders is also a drug.

About the Author
DEAN SEWELL is Senior Lecturer in Human Physiology and Metabolism at Heriot-Watt University.

PHILIP WATKINS is currently the Performance Director for Sports Performance Consultancy (SPC) Ltd in Derby, UK, having lectured and taught physical education, sports biomechanics and strength and conditioning across all levels of the UK education system for almost 20 years. In addition, Phil has worked extensively with elite athletes providing scientific support across a variety of sports. He is a BASES Accredited Interdisciplinary Sport and Exercise Scientist, a UKSCA Accredited Strength and Conditioning Coach, and an NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. As an athlete, Phil has over 14 years' international competitive experience, having represented both Wales and Great Britain in the sport of powerlifting. He has won British, European and World titles and, more recently, is the 2011 Commonwealth Deadlift champion and Powerlifting silver medallist.

MURRAY GRIFFIN is Lecturer in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Essex.
