All VMWare Engineers Need This Book On The Shelf !!

Whether you are a novice engineer looking to obtain your VCP or an experienced senior level virtualization engineer supporting customers this is a great read! I feel this book serves as a key reference tool from pre-sales/sales to administrators, engineers, and varchitects in the virtualized world!

Edward Haletky explains all the core components of VMWare's virtualization in an A-Z manner and covered many new features unlocked with vSphere 4.1. I have already adjusted design and service delivery plans, customer questionnaires, and configurations based on many commonly missed items by everyone involved the data center and virtualized life cycle.

All the key concepts, even those not always noticed or included in VCP training & boot camps are included in this book from Storage, Network, and Compute to Disaster Recovery planning and implementation. Honestly I enjoy the reference to real world scenarios given by the author, that are very on spot and key to understanding successful deployments of a virtualized infrastructure.

A worthy 2nd edition

Let me start with saying I've read the first edition of this book and Ed's Security book and found both to be excellent.

As this book was a second edition, I focused my reading on those updated areas and there were a few. As always Ed provided a good balance between detail and real world examples/implementations that carry the weight of his experience with VMware on the whole.

I'd recommend this book for those getting into their first few ESX/ESXi implementations, and to supplement the official VMware courseware with real world examples.

Great specifics on ESXi

I purchased this book to learn more about backing up and copying virtual disks from my ESXi server. So chapter 12 "Disaster Recovery, Business continuity and Backup" really did it for me. The experience and utility of the Kindle version specifically, saved me the shipping time. I obviously had the book in minutes, and had information that I couldn't have easily located by just Googling my question. (Specifically command line utilities that I wasn't even aware existed) The book overall looks VERY thorough, and specifically the chapter I was focused on, details a level of preparedness that shed some light for thoughts on new areas for me. Not having to lug around a giant reference book also saves my back. Thank you to the author for a great job, and the publisher for making this available in this format!

About the Author

One of the world's foremost motorcycle historians, Ian Falloon is the author of more than twenty books on motorcycles including the The Ducati 750 Bible, Ducati 900 Bible, Ducati Story, Moto Guzzi Story, Honda Story, Kawasaki Story, BMW Story, Moto Guzzi Sport Bible and Laverda Twin and Triple Bible. He has a small collection of classic sporting motorcycles, including a 1974 Ducati 750 Super Sport that he has owned since 1976. A freelance contributor to a number of motorcycle magazines around the world, Ian Falloon was born in New Zealand but currently lives in Australia with his wife Miriam, and sons Ben and Tim.

Monster read

For all Monster riders - or wannabees - this is a must-have read. Though somewhat coffee-table-ish, it is full of excellent photography, though the Technical details for each specific model seem slightly on the light side - hence the 4-star rating. I had (sold it now...), a Monster 1000 S.i.e., which was not covered as thoroughly as other specific models, but then, not many of these were made by comparison to more popliar lines...
Still, if you're a typical Ducati driver, you'll like this book.

Book dissapoints- pictures often seen before- ducati ads.
Uninteresting details...colour schemes, minor insignificant changes....very poor writing style. Could have been a lot more interesting with test reviews, impressions, opinions...

As a recent convert to Ducati I didn't know a great deal of history about them. This book told me everything I wanted to know, plus an awful lot I didn't think I would find interesting. If you own a Monster, or are going to buy one, buy yourself this book. It will also help you plan which Monster is your next one.

Simply the best microbiology review book

This book is great. It covers everything you need to know for step 1, while leaving out all you dont' need to know. The questions are probably the best micro vignette questions out there, and helps reinforce what you learned from the book.

This book is much better than micro made ridiculously simple in terms of boards review. Its written in outline format so you can get through it much faster, and it includes an immunology section that has all you need to know for the immunology questions on the step.

The only thing I don't like is the Rapid Review format. At times the outline format should be written in complete sentences (like the high-yield series) to avoid confusing statments/facts. For me, this seemed especially true in the immunology section, which can be confusing if you have a weak immuno background.

Other than that, this is a great review book. The only review book for micro in my opinion.

Good content, but not nearly comprehensive

I am a big fan of the Rapid Review series. The Pathology version by Goljan, as far as I'm concerned, is just as essential as First Aid when it comes to reviewing for class and Step 1. However, Microbiology and Immunology are what I would consider two of the most important topics covered on Step 1 along with pathology, pharmacology, and neuroscience. This book has some good review material in it, but is far from comprehensive. Many topics are discussed extremely briefly or omitted entirely. I could only recommend this book for someone who has Microbiology and Immunology down very well and just needs a super quick refresher. To be honest, First Aid does a better job of covering this material.

*** This review is regarding the content of the book only. I do own this book, but I have not accessed the Student Consult online material. Although I have accessed it for the pathology book in this series. From that material I have deduced that it can't make that big of a difference; but I could very easily be wrong.

Review of Microbiology and Immunology

Perfect for medical microbio class. I used Micro Made easy for class, and after reading this book to review for the boards I would definately recommend it over Micro made easy. The organization is better, it's a shorter text, has an outline format, has excellent tables that while are not as detailed as the micro made easy book are a lot easier to read, and it has everything you need to know for class, which micro made easy does not.

Immuno section is a bit brief but it has all the essentials. I would also recommend reading Immunobiology by Janeway and Medical Microbiology by Murray. Both texts are outstanding and really help you appreciate the subjects.

Can't Beat The Great Courses!

I bought this as a requested Christmas Gift for my wife to go along with another Great Courses video series, and the detail, examples and quality are excellent. It could only be better if you were personally in a cooking class. The price was great and the shipping was very fast. Perfect!

Great Information.. You will learn to make great desserts!

Well done. The Instructor is highly qualified, explains everything well and is easy to understand. Each lesson is complete from start to finish, and you can select "play all" to have all the lessons play one right after the other. Chef Durfee explains the methodology perfectly, but he does not let you know the quantity of each ingredient. The only things I would like to see added would be an overlay of the actual recipe being demonstrated, and teaching the students to measure the ingredients on a scale, not in measuring cups. I was a pastry chef in another life and I still learned a trick or two. I would definitely recommend this video to anyone wanting to learn to bake cakes, pies, eclairs, flan, creme brulee, as well as make sauces like caramel and ganache.
